15 (Really 25) Random Things About Me

15 Random Notes About Me!

1. I love my family. My boys are the most important thing to me and they bring me so much joy!

2. My animals are also my family. There is not anything more soothing than to feel the warmth of their fur in your hands and their breath on your face. The look they have in their eyes of pure love, trust and faith in you. When I am sad, they are sad. When I am happy, they are too. When I am angry they are afraid for me. They know me almost better than any human. I love them so.

3. I love to find treasures. I love it when I stumble upon that beaten, forgotten, neglected item and can see the beauty. I love that I am the one that can bring it back to life again. I can make it even more fabulous then it was before!

4. I wish that I was a better housekeeper. I am always so very busy that my home seems to become neglected. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to take care of everything that needs to be done. I used to keep a clean organized home, but I just can't seem to keep up anymore. Please don't judge me by the mess....I'm very organized in my head.

5. I love to write. Since I was young I have always kept a diary. As I grew older, I started a journal. I used to journal every single night. Once I had children, it became harder and harder to journal. It became more sporadic and less frequent. Recently, I have vowed to become more diligent in my efforts. I feel very strongly that in this juncture in my life, journaling will help me tremendously. I have also created a new blog for these efforts. Menagerieofmymind.blogspot.com check it out!

6. My friend's are extremely important to me. They can count on me for anything. I am a very reliable, dependable, loyal friend. I like to feel that I can be counted on in any pinch. I often feel though, that my friends take advantage of me in that way; knowing how I am....Sometimes, I become very disheartened at how unreliable they seem to be. How unsupportive they are. I wish I could overcome this emotion, but it's gotten stronger as I have grown older.

7. I love to watch movies - new and old. Whether it's in the movie theater or at home, it doesn't matter. Movies take me away for a little while...to another place and time... it's really nice.

8. My favorite beverage is Dr. Pepper. Occasionally, Dr. Pepper and Captain Morgan's or Malibu....

9. I can't start my day without breakfast. I become very grouchy without it and can't seem to move forward until I'm fed.

10. I can go for days, weeks and even months with little or no sleep. I'm good to go first thing in the morning and late at night. I do some of my best, most creative work late, late at night.

11. I love to garden. I love the feel of the dirt in my hands. It is very soothing to me. When I am angry, it calms me. I love to reflect upon the garden from beginning to end. The transformation is enlightening. I am fascinated with the way things grow, the beauty of it all. God's little wonders! How ingenious HE is.

12. I love to scrapbook. But I never have enough time to do it. I wish I did. I love putting those memories into a book for generations to reflect on them. I don't like the idea of them being pictures in a box with no story.

13. I was born in Nebraska and moved to Arizona in 1970. I really consider Arizona my home. I love it here and would never move away. I went to a K-8 school, when there was no such thing as a middle school. The grade school was called Hohokam Elementary in Scottsdale. Then I went to high school at Coronado High School.

14. I have worked soooo many jobs. I worked at A & W, was a carry out, Health and Beauty Stocker, Cashier, worked in the Knife Shop, Sold ice cream, cleaned houses, landscaped, Groomed dogs, was a Radiator apprentice, Delivery driver, worked the deli counter, Sold Princess House Crystal, Assistant Deli Manager/Catering, was a Home Preschool Provider, Preschool Mentor, Kindergarten Aide, Preschool Aide, Secretary, Records Clerk, Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant, Public Relations, Professional Development Guru, and Small Business Owner. Did you know that? And, it wasn't necessarily in that order. Please let me know if there was something I did that I didn't list here. It's hard to remember all of it....

15. I saw the Pope at ASU when I was like 18 with Karla Angelini. It was amazing. He was riding in his little "Pope Mobile".

16. I was born and raised Catholic; was baptized, made my communion, my confirmation, reaffirmed my beliefs and was married Catholic. Both of my children are baptized Catholic. I don't attend a Catholic Church nowadays. I consider myself a Christian and follow all of those beliefs.

17. I love to watch Lost, CSI, Days of Our Lives, Nip and Tuck, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break and Charmed. My favorite series was "Alias". God! I miss that show....

18. I can't grow finger nails. I do love them long and beautiful, but it just makes what I do so very difficult.

19. I have really small feet. They have been referred to as "Flinstone Feet" because they are small and somewhat chubby.

20. My first car was a Chrysler Impala that would never run. Everything in it was electrical and it had a short, every time I got in it, the batter was dead. My second car was a Ford Mustang 1964 1/2. I loved it. One of my dearest friends used to call it the "Car from Hell".

21. I love to flirt, but don't often do it.

22. I can do any sport that I set my mind to. I am very adept at picking up skills and advancing at them. Sometimes this causes a problem with my male counterparts.

23. I played volleyball on a team since 5th grade. I love it! I was a "setter".

24. I am most agile in water. When I was little I was often referred to as "part fish". I also tan very easily. I always wore a bikini and my mom used to pull down my bikini bottoms and prove that I was the little blonde girl in the Coppertone commercials. I could probably even tan indoors.

25. In closing, I am open, trusting, warm, friendly, somewhat funny, and easy going. I don't often get mad, I tell you what I think and I don't hold a grudge. When I am angry though, my face turns a bright red and I shake. This doesn't often happen, but if it does, be afraid. Be very afraid! As a counter, when I love, I love wholeheartedly.

Thank you for letting me share. I hope you learned something you didn't already know.

Western, Western and More Western

I have been working very hard at the store creating a wonderful western environment. It has been very well received. The western/rustic inventory is stampeding out the door. Check it out.

be aware...

"The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly,
serenely, divinely aware."
-Henry Miller

It's All About Me.

The past many years have had me wearing many masks and posing as this person or that for the benefit of others. I have stripped off one mask only to replace it with another when some new person came along to please. I have spent a long time co-dependently trying to be all things to all people (under a faux benevolent guise) and, naturally, resenting it at times. It was all self-chosen. I don’t blame anyone. I don’t even blame myself. It just is. Those days, however, are over for me.

I am done trying to be "all" for "everyone". I am trying to find my way back to who I am without the guise of being what everyone wants or needs. I am on my way and I’m loving it.

It’s all about me for a bit of time. Not me the ego who has been coping but me the Spirit who came here to have fun and shine brightly.

It’s about f***ing time. :-)

Darkness, Darkness Disappear!

“Give light, and the darkness will disappear of itself.” ~Desiderius Erasmus

I love this picture and I love this quote! This is from Kymberlee's Flickr site. She is always delving deep into herself and the world. I wish I could be that introverted and deep. I wish I could discover those parts of me that I haven't seen for a really long time.

An Update on Shadow....

Just wanted to let those of you who have asked about Shadow, that she seems to be doing much better. We can tell that she is not quite back to her usual self yet, but she is definitely not in as bad of shape as she was the other day. Please still keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she is getting up there in age and we love her soooooo.

"I talk to her when I'm lonesome like; and I'm sure she understands. When she looks at me so attentively, and gently licks my hands; then she rubs her nose on my tailored clothes, but I never say naught thereat. For the good Lord knows I can buy more clothes, but never a friend like that. " ~W. Dayton Wedgefarth

The Lopsided World of L

For those of you who don't listen to the Lopsided World of L on 98 Kupd... you have got to check it out. It's on Saturday mornings until about 10:00 a.m. He always plays the most interesting songs - new and old. Just this Saturday, while out shopping for the store, I caught a new song that is just growing on me like mold on a lump of cheese. I just love it. It's called " The Mission" by Puscifer with guest vocals by Milla Jovovich of Resident Evil. Yes, she sings! I guess she has been singing for a long time. She often sings back up and has had her own album with her own top single. You can hear "The Mission" by clicking on this link https://store.puscifer.com/frameset.html. It starts playing when the website opens. Milla doesn't open the song, but starts singing about halfway through. I have also added her official website link: http://www.millaj.com/. On this site you can catch many of her songs and her lyrics. She has a really distinct voice. Let me know what you think of both of these new - old - artists.

Always expanding our horizons and remaining open to new energy.....

Kevin Costner Sings - Wow!

We just watched "Swing Vote" and Kevin Costner sings in it. So, we got to talking and researching, and found out that he has been singing with a band since the 80s. Went to iTunes and downloaded his album "Untold Truths". I'm listening to it right now while blogging. I have to say that it's pretty darn good. He's got a very nice voice and I love the melody of the songs, slightly country but not quite. You will have to check it out.

"I do not want to get to the end of my life and find that I just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well."
-Diane Ackerman

"What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us."

"Some people weave burlap into the fabric of our lives, and some weave gold thread. Both contribute to make the whole picture beautiful and unique."
-Anon.

These are some thoughts that are running through my mind tonight. How do we measure our lives? How do we define worth? How does one begin to live life "fuller"? There just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to do everything one needs to do. And if you decide to put aside obligation or necessity to smell the roses...what happens then? How do those obligations get completed? I wish I knew. I wish I could just take some time. It sounds easy doesn't it....

My Precious, Precious Shadow

Shadow is my precious puppy. She has been a loyal family member for about 13 years now and today, she is not feeling well. I can see it in her eyes. I watch "little sissy" and worry what she will do if something were to happen to "big sissy". I don't know what Wolfie would do. And I'm afraid of how devastating it will be for all of us - another loss so close after Stubbie. How will we survive this????? Please, keep our baby Shadow in your prayers to keep her safe, healthy and happy. We love her so.

Until Tomorrow....

I just feel like I have so much to get out there - so much that I want to share. I will add more tomorrow, yet another day.... Please be there with me.

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. The moment one definitely commits oneself all sorts of things occur to help that which would not have occurred otherwise. A whole stream of events will rise in one’s favor which no person could have dreamed would have come their way.”

~ Goethe

A Website I Stumbled Upon that Inspires Me...

When I was in Nebraska earlier this year, I was looking for specific types of photos. I just randomly googled different words and stumbled upon Kymberlee's. She has some fantastic photos and she seems to be speaking from the heart while searching for herself. I was so inspired...I'd like to share it with you. Please check it out.

The Treasure Chest

The Treasure Chest

The chest was old, and covered with dust,

It had been many years since it had been touched.

As I gazed at it, I wondered what treasures it held.

With a glimmer of hope I opened the lid.

My heart raced as I saw my favorite old dress,

Some pictures and magazines, a book and necklace.

I found some love letters and read every one.

The emotion was overwhelming, I cried down the sun.

It had been so long since I had felt so alive,

All those treasures locked away now burning inside.

I cried as I wondered where that person had gone,

The me who loved life, who never settled, who had fun,

I had her back now, I couldn’t let go,

This treasure of passion, my heart all aglow.

To open this chest was to open my heart,

To break through the locks that time had imposed.

Yes, our chests hold our treasures,

Our passions for life,

Our heart and our soul,

Our tomorrow, our today, every moment, all we know.

Don’t bury your treasure or lock it away,

Open your treasure chest – your heart.

Live, Love, and Play.

The One Who Knows Me Best

Shelley has been with me, and stood by me, through thick and thin. She speaks only the truth to me - even when I don't know it or want to hear it. She makes me look down deep into my soul for real answers. She asks very little in return. I am a very selfish friend. I wish I could be more.
I love her so.

My Boys - My Joy!!

My Dearest Friends

These are two of my dearest friends. Marianne and Lee. I love them to death. I couldn't imagine what my life would be like without them in it.

A New Day

It's a new day and a new idea came to me. Why don't I start blogging? I've always wondered about it. In the past I have always had journals, jotted down notes and saved quotes that I found profound. I thought maybe this would be a good way for me to do that...to make my notes here. If my friends want to stop by every now and again and check it out, that would be great too!

I hope this will be a great experience for me - and for those of you who wander here. Bear with me...but I do learn fast.

So here are some quotes for today...

Show me a woman who's not full of herself and I'll show you a hungry woman.

-Nikki Giovanni

Inside myself is a place where I live all alone and that's where you renew your springs that never dry up.

-Pearl S. Buck
